03Frequently asked
Does my audio leave my Mac?
Not with on-device engines — everything stays local. If you enable a cloud engine, audio is sent directly to that provider using your own API key. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Which build do I download — Apple Silicon or Intel?
The website tries to detect and recommend the right one. If you’re unsure: click the Apple menu → About This Mac. A “Chip” entry that starts with “Apple” (e.g. M1/M2/M3) means Apple Silicon; a “Processor” entry mentioning Intel means Intel.
macOS says the app “cannot be opened” or is from an unidentified developer.
For builds downloaded outside the App Store, right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose Open, then confirm. If macOS still blocks it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Dictation isn’t inserting text into my app.
VTT needs microphone and, for auto-insert, accessibility/input permissions. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and make sure VTT is enabled under Microphone and Accessibility. Toggling the permission off and on, then restarting VTT, resolves most cases.
A cloud engine returns an error.
Check that your API key is valid and has remaining quota with the provider, and that you have an internet connection. Keys are stored locally on your Mac and used only to talk to that provider.
How do I remove VTT and its data?
Quit VTT and move the app to the Trash. You can also remove your API keys from within the app beforehand and revoke its permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
